There Is A Process To Becoming A Full Electrician

Becoming an electrical contractor isn't as easy as waking up one morning, grabbing the right tools, and hitting Google and Youtube to figure out how to do the work. There are things that you are going to do in order to become an electrician and to make sure that you can do the job legally.

There is actually a whole process that you are going to have to go through, and it starts with an apprenticeship. When you are working as an apprentice electrician, you are going to start learning all the things that you need so that you can become an electrician. Your apprenticeship will include hands-on work as well as some classroom time. While there are a lot of things that you can learn practically, there are always going to be something that you are going to need learn from books and manuals. So, splitting your time between practical stuff and classroom stuff is going to make sure that you know what you need to do. When you are doing the hands-on learning, you will be under the direct supervision of an experienced, licensed electrician. That way they can make sure that you know what you are doing and can show you what may need to be repaired.

After you are done with your apprenticeship, which will include a certain amount of hours worked and passing some tests, you can be licensed at a certain level. That means that you can do some work on your own, but that you may still need to be checked off on some things, just to make sure that they are done right. Again, you are going to need to do a certain amount of hours before you can become a master electrician, and your state may require more testing so that you can pass on to the next level. You may also have to get a new license at that point, again, depending on your local laws.

Master Electrician

Once you have become a master electrician, you can do your work without supervision and you have fewer limitations as to what kind of work you are able to do. Even though you are licensed, you may still have to do some continuing education to make sure that you can keep your license valid as well as renewing it from time to time. For instance, you may need to look for electrical contractor license extensions from time to time.

Becoming a full electrician can take a lot of work, but doing it can make sure that you have the job you want.
