Improving The Lighting In Your Living Room: Options For You

When you move into a new house, you know that much of the time you and your family will spend in your home will be in the common spaces like the living room and family room. As such, you want those common areas of your home to be as comfortable and welcoming as possible. One of the ways to do this is with your living room lighting. If your living room lighting seems dim or otherwise problematic, get to know some of the ways that you can improve your living room lighting and get started making the adjustments that you need to make.

Vary Your Lighting Height

If you have a living room set with end tables, lamps, and other furniture that all match, you likely have all of your lamps aligned at basically the same height. When your lighting is all on an even height plane, your room will seem darker, dimmer and overall gloomier than it would if you had lighting of varied heights.

Mix up your living room lighting. Get a small lamp to put on an end table along with your tall floor lamps. You could even prop one of those floor lamps up on a small stand to vary the height of those lamps slightly. When you have lights at different heights, the room seems brighter because the light will be hitting the walls in different places and therefore lighting a greater surface area.

Install Track Lighting or Recessed Track Lighting

Another way to improve the lighting in your living room and make it more enjoyable for you and your family is to install track lighting or recessed track lighting. This is permanent overhead lighting that is adjustable and can provide you with mood lighting or serve to brighten the room.

You will likely need residential electrician services in order to install track lighting as the wiring process can be complicated. The track lighting option allows you to install rows of small lights all around your room.

These lights can be pointed in different directions or all in the same direction depending on your lighting goal. For example, if all the lights point to the same area, you can create a spotlight on a part of the room that you want to make a focal point. On the other hand, pointing them in different directions will splash light all around the room, making it brighter overall.

Now that you know a few of the ways that you can improve the lighting in your living room, you can get started as soon as possible and be sure that you have the most comfortable living room space possible for you and your family.
